How has transpotation progressed?

Transportation in Wellington has progressed a lot in the 167 year since 1840. In 1840 people could not travel long distances because there transportation was limited to horse and cart and walking. They could also travel places by boat but that could take weeks or months to arrive at their destination. It took about 6 months to travel from England to Wellington. Now in 2007 we can travel by aeroplane all around the word much quicker. We can travel to England in about 24 hours. Also we have the car that can speed up the travel over smaller distances. Now we can live in places like Khandallah and drive into Wellington each day back in the 1840's people would have found that imposable as it would of taken most of the day to get into Wellington by horse and cart. Over time the different types of transportation effect how we lived in Wellington. So of the different types of transportation that was in Wellington since 1840's were trams, trains, cable car, buses and ferry's. Over time the trams and trains progressed from steam powered to electric and later the trams turned to buses. The things that have most effected transportation is technology as technology progresses so does the speed and efficiency of transport.
